Additional Information

Have you heard the word prediabetes? Prediabetes means that your blood glucose (sugar) level is higher than normal however not yet high enough to be classified as Type 2 diabetes. Without intervention, prediabetes is likely to become Type 2 diabetes in 10 years or less.

Our PreventT2 Lifestyle Change Program is a partnership of public and private organizations working to prevent or delay Type 2 diabetes. Partnerships within Muscatine County make it easier for people at risk for Type 2 diabetes to participate in evidence-based lifestyle change programs to reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes.

  • You’ll get a full year of support (both group session and a Lifestyle Coach).
  • You'll learn how to eat healthy, add physical activity to your routine, manage stress, stay motivated, and solve problems that can get in the way of your goals.
  • Class size range from 6-10 participants.
  • The course has two components: 1.) a 16-week intensive behavior change class session, meeting weekly for 1-hour time frame followed with; 2.) 6-months of ongoing education and a support network.

This lifestyle change program is proven to prevent or delay Type 2 diabetes. Participants who lost 5-7% of their body weight and added 150 minutes of exercise per week cut their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by up to 58% (71% for people over 60 years old).
